Job Description:
La Sierra University seeks a Laboratory Coordinator to provide a
wide variety of operational, research and administrative laboratory
support services for the Biology Department. This includes the
preparation for a smooth running of assigned laboratories each
week. The ideal candidate will enhance and follow specific
processes and procedures to maximize the efficiencies of the
academic courses or research activities conducted in the
laboratory, and ensure the correct functioning of facilities and
equipment. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for scheduling,
training, coaching and mentoring all Teaching Assistants for all
sections of the laboratory course. Supervises and evaluates TA’s
for the laboratories. Ensures that TA’s set up, implement and tear
down all lab sessions. Ensures that teaching assistants are
properly guiding and assisting students. Meets with lab TA’s on a
weekly basis during the school year and prepares for that week’s
Recommends hiring and rehiring of Teaching Assistants for the
laboratories. Assists faculty with designing and implementing
course laboratory experiments and projects. Fully coordinates lab
experiments in support of the related course instructors.
Responsible for the safety of the students and teaching assistants
in the lab environment. Provides formal lab instruction as needed.
Prepares and coordinates lab quizzes and keeps record of all lab
grades. Provides support and assistance related to facilities and
equipment issues and repairs. Develops and implements policies,
procedures and standards for lab operations to ensure the
efficiency, effectiveness and quality control of the teaching
laboratory and compliance with federal, state and university
regulations and standards. Coordinates the operational activities
in instructional laboratories providing support services to
faculty, students and technicians. Coordinates the ordering,
inventory, storage and maintenance of supplies, lab ware and
instruments essential to the operation of course labs. Other duties
as assigned by the department chair. Qualifications: To perform

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Biology or related
discipline, or equivalent experience and professional
certifications; two to three years related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general
business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures,
or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively
present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,
interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic
algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical
problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to
interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills: Expertise in Microsoft
Office. Ability to use commonly available biology software and
course management systems. Supervisory Responsibilities: Ability to
manage and supervise student workers. Work Environment: The work

knowledge of good practices in disposal of chemicals. Ability to
understand the importance of and uphold confidentiality regarding
student records and information shared in faculty meetings. Must
have strong attention to detail and follow-through skills. Wage
Range: $20.38 to $23.50, plus generous benefits.
