Red Collar Pet Foods is looking for a Maintenance Planner to join our exciting new pet food business at one of our manufacturing plants. Who is Red Collar? Purpose of Role

The primary role of the maintenance planner / scheduler is to improve work force productivity and work quality by eliminating in advance potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time and manpower. This position will lead and facilitate change to maintenance systems such as planning and scheduling methods, job and technical procedures, managing risks by metrics and assisting the reliability manager in developing the skills of associate. The planner/scheduler is responsible for improving the overall effectiveness of the maintenance department through planning and scheduling of all maintenance work performed in the area to which he/she is assigned. He/she maintains liaison and coordination between the operation and maintenance organizations; maintains appropriate records and files to permit meaningful analysis and reporting of results or work done.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To ensure the operation areas or functions that he/she serves receives the prompt, efficient, and quality service from the Reliability function they need in order to operate at a high level of efficiency.
  • Accurately define and estimate work requests
  • Properly prepare and distribute meaningful control reports
  • Labor effectiveness of the area to which assigned as measured by work sampling
  • Orderly placement of work orders on the schedule(s) and their completion within the specified time frame
  • Reduced Waste and improved Quality, Yield and TRS
  • Improvement in mean time between equipment failures
  • The accuracy of estimates of labor and material
  • The improved use of labor and improved plant condition as expressed by a reduction in emergencies, overtime hours worked and in unscheduled labor worked
  • The timely and accurate preparation and distribution of meaningful control reports
  • Conduct minimum of 2 training sessions/year delivered to Operations Reliability on planning/scheduling processes
  • Reduced energy consumption
  • Promote and Support Lean Initiatives
  • Associate is responsible for communicating and elevating any quality and food safety concerns to site management

  • All associates are responsible for the safety, quality and food safety in their work area
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
    Key Functional Skills/Knowledge
    • Knowledge to estimate time and materials and to visualize the job to be performed
    • Able to read blueprints and shop drawings. Sketching ability is a plus
    • Understanding of the proper use of MIS applications (i.e. work orders, priorities, scheduling, etc.)
    • Ability to work overtime and may require working in the elements of heat, cold, high and/or confined spaces. Must have the ability to lift, climb ladders, stairs, and do repetitive bending and twisting
    • Work as a team member within the maintenance department to improve the total reliability of the plant
    • Understand maintenance principles and develop self and department work practices to promote a proactive environment
    • Team player, Action oriented, Problem solving abilities and Strong communication skills
    • Must be capable of working at elevated heights and or confined space
    • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
    • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 55 lbs.
    • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals
    • Knowledge of local, federal, and industry regulations with regards to: Food Safety (GMP, HACCP), Food Quality (Product and Process)
    • Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices and SPC
    • Forklift assignments require OSHA certification and getting on and off frequently


      Minimum Qualifications:
      • Be 18 years of age or older
      • Several years' experience in Facility maintenance preferred
      • A good working knowledge of CMMS, planning and scheduling, and basic production systems and the ability to prioritize multiple activities with various risk levels
      • Good basic personal computer literacy required
      • Good technical communication and teaching skills
      • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment with a positive attitude & minimal supervision
      • High school diploma or equivalent with good basic math, reading, and writing skills
      • Basic knowledge of personal computers and good problem solving and/or troubleshooting skills
      • Ability to access relevant information about equipment and provide clear information about equipment condition and status, which would include any unscheduled downtime of equipment that hampers achieving the production schedule goals
      • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
      • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

        Preferred Quali?cations:
        • 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines
        • 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline
        • Experience with CMMS
        • Working Knowledge of food safety, GMP, GHOP, HACCP, SPC
        • Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email
        • Knowledge of inventory control principles
        • Ability to operate a forklift/OSHA certification
        • Experience with JD Edwards
