Job Description:

Social Service Practitioner (SSP) I is the trainee level of the professional social work series. These positions provide professional social work services including diagnosis, assessment, intervention and case management support to children and/or families with complex health, psychological or economic problems. Work requires investigating and/or supporting cases involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities or other health conditions. Travel and field work, including home visits, are a routine part of these assignments.

Social Service Practitioner (SSP) II & III provide professional social work services including diagnosis, assessment, intervention and case management support to children and/or families with complex health, psychological or economic problems. Work requires investigating and/or supporting cases involving neglect, abuse, emotional or behavioral problems, physical/mental disabilities or other health conditions. Travel and field work, including home visits, are a routine part of these assignments.

Social Service Practitioner I
$56,992 - $76,440 annually

Social Service Practitioner II
S2: $59,883-$86,444 annually

Social Service Practitioner III
S4: $64,438-$91,956 annually

Promotion: Incumbents in the class of SSP I are eligible for promotion to SSP II upon completion of the training period or meeting the minimum requirements for the SSP II, in addition to receiving a satisfactory Work Performance Evaluation. Incumbents must successfully promote within twelve (12) months of hire or be terminated.

Requirements

Social Service Practitioner I

Applicants must meet one of the following options:

Option A: Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. Applications will also be accepted from candidates who are within 120 days of completing a BSW. Job offers may be made contingent upon degree completion; verification of qualifications will be required prior to hire.

Option B: Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of graduate or upper division coursework in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Services/Human Services, Cultural and Gender Studies, or Human Development. (Note: Candidates with degree titles not specified above (e.g. Criminal Justice, Political Science, etc.) may be considered but must provide coursework for review.) Candidates must provide a list of completed coursework or copies of transcripts unless they have completed a Bachelor's/Advanced Degree in a qualifying area.
-AND-
Experience: Two (2) years of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on application or resume.)
Social Service Practitioner II-III
Applicants must meet one of the following options:

Option A: A Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.

Option B: A Master's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Counseling with emphasis in marriage, family or child counseling or a closely related field AND either 500 hours of supervised clinical internship OR one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on application or resume.)

Option C: A Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND one (1) year of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on the application.)


Option D: Bachelor's degree in gerontology, behavioral science, psychology, sociology, social/human services, anthropology, cultural and gender studies, or human development AND two (2) years of casework experience equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County. (Note: Experience as a Social Worker II Trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly distinguished from experience as a Social Worker II on the application.)

Option E: Successful completion of training period as a Social Service Practitioner I in San Bernardino County.
Candidates in Final Year of Master's Program: Applications will be accepted from candidates who are within 120 days of completing a qualifying degree provided they meet the minimum requirements for experience at time of application. Job offers may be made contingent upon degree completion; verification of qualifications will be required prior to hire.
