Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience in general
medical surgical ICU - Prior travel experience preferred
Description: The unit is licensed for 44 beds but is currently
utilizing 36. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS,
with CCRN preferred. The nurse-to-patient ratios are either 1:2 or
1:1. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner Power
Chart. There is a charge nurse on duty who does not take patient
assignments. Unit techs perform secretary and equipment duties, but
there are no nurse aides. Weekend shifts are required every other
weekend, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for both days and
nights. Travel nurses should expect to work holidays as they are
required during peak times. Scrub color is navy blue. The monitor
system includes 44 hardwired monitors, but centralized monitoring
is not available. Common medications include vasopressors,
nitroglycerin, and heparin. Ventilator support is included in
patient care. An in-house hospitalist or intensivist is available
24/7. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are also available
24/7. Shifts are scheduled from 0645 to 1915 and 1845 to 0715.
There is no self-scheduling; floating to telemetry and emergency
services for ICU holds is required. Orientation consists of one day
on the ICU and one shift on the telemetry/stepdown unit. Common
diagnoses include cardiac issues, sepsis, strokes, and post-cardiac
intervention patients. Travel nurses will not be assigned fresh
open-heart or craniotomy patients. Nurses are expected to be
skilled, competent, and compassionate in patient care. The hospital
has a strong focus on patient satisfaction. The facility reserves
the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
