Job Description:

The Coder performs:

ICD and CPT coding

Abstracts data from multiple computer systems

Comprise the legal medical record for facilities.

Ensures the quality and accuracy of coding

Is compliant with federal and state regulations, government and contract payers

Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes in compliance with the American Hospital Association Official Coding Guidelines.

Coder must be able to perform coding in the areas of Inpatient and Outpatient, and/or Emergency coding.

Must maintains stated performance and quality standards.

Works with students and coding interns as requested.

Performs other duties as needed.

Must have experience coding acute care hospital charts.

Completion of Coding Certificate program or Associate?s Degree in Health Information Management required.

Bachelor?s degree in Health Information Management preferred.

Minimum two years of experience in coding in an acute care facility or completion of coding certificate program from an accredited facility.
