The department seeks to appoint an outstanding educator with a broad range of teaching and professional experience - spanning music production, recording, and engineering - and a visionary outlook on successful music pedagogy in the twenty-first century.TYPICAL ACTIVITIESTypical teaching duties will include courses in electronic music production, studio recording, and music industry studies. The faculty member will also directly supervise applied lessons, internships, and senior capstone projects, and will work closely with students across a wide range of musical genres and practices. New courses may also be developed in accordance with the individual's interests and the department's needs. The successful candidate will also be expected to be highly active in the areas of service to the department, community, and profession, and will also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in mentoring a diverse student population.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS PhD, DMA, or MFA in Music Technology or closely-related field Record of excellence in teaching music technology at the college or university level PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience mentoring students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, cultural, disability, gender, and gender-identity backgrounds, as well as first-generation and non-traditional college students Experience working at a Hispanic Serving Institution and/or a Historically Black College or University Record of professional working experience in the music technology and commercial music industries Familiarity with NASM undergraduate curriculum standards Certification in one or more industry-standard digital audio workstations Demonstrated potential for success in innovative research, scholarship, and/or creative activity as a music technologist Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application. Others apply their musical background to careers in business, law, medicine, and library science. The department's Liberal Studies courses provide elementary teachers with the experience and knowledge necessary to make music an effective tool in their classrooms.
